City of Chico Measures

Measure P

I VOTE - YES

Roads are not a minor issue in Butte County. They affect daily travel, public safety, emergency access, evacuation routes, agriculture, business, and rural residents who depend on county-maintained roads. When road responsibilities are combined with another elected office, accountability can become blurred. If roads are neglected, delayed, or poorly prioritized, voters deserve to know exactly who is responsible.

Measure P helps create a clearer line of responsibility by separating the Road Commissioner role into its own distinct office. That allows road oversight to receive more direct attention and gives voters a better way to judge performance.

This is not about adding unnecessary government. It is about making county government more understandable and accountable. Roads deserve focused leadership, and taxpayers deserve a structure where responsibility is not hidden inside a combined office.

A Yes on P vote says Butte County’s roads, rural infrastructure, and evacuation routes matter enough to have clear, direct oversight.

Vote Yes on Measure P for accountability, focus, and better road responsibility in Butte County.

One thing I’d avoid saying is that it will automatically “fix the roads.” That’s too strong. The better argument is that it creates a better structure for accountability and focus.
